This policy brief, based on the Gender Responsive Climate Security Assessment for Sri Lanka, examines how embedding justice and equity in climate action can address underlying grievances, strengthen social cohesion, and prevent the re-emergence of conflict in Sri Lanka. It offers gender-responsive and conflict-sensitive recommendations to advance inclusive climate adaptation, peacebuilding, and national unity.

This report, developed in partnership between the European Institute for Peace and Weathering Risk Peace Pillar, presents the results of an extensive consultation as part of the project Environmental Pathways for Reconciliation in Yemen. The analysis reveals the multiple dimensions of environmental risks that Yemen is grappling with and their impact on its social fabric, human security, and conflict. The results also provide insights into the gaps and potential entry points when addressing these risks, especially with a focus on peace and reconciliation.

Research has significantly advanced our understanding of the complex relationship between climate change and conflict, yet this knowledge is often unavailable or offers little practical value to peace mediators. This practice note sets out three reasons why it is in the interest of mediators to adopt a more proactive approach to climate change. It then outlines the opportunities climate change offers and how climate change considerations can be mainstreamed across mediation practice.

This profile provides an overview of climate trends for near-term (2020–39) and medium-term (2040–59) time periods under the higher-emission SSP3-7.0 scenario and lower-emission SSP1-2.6 scenario, and their impacts across different sectors.
